Exxon MobilProbably the worst oil company in the worldAs global temperatures rise and the world is ravaged by severe weather conditions linked to Climate Change, Exxon Mobil are leading the struggle by industry to BLOCK international legislation to cut greenhouse gases.Exxon Mobil, through their membership of the Global Climate Coalition, was the company trying the most to disrupt the 1997 Kyoto Protocol agreement. When they were unsuccessful, they lobbied the USA government to prevent ratifcation of the Protocol. Shell, BP and Amoco (after pressure from Friends of the Earth) have left the Global Climate Coalition, and are investing in renewable energy projects - But Exxon Mobil stubbornly refuse to. What you can doIt is important that Esso (Exxon's UK subsidiary) realise that their activities are causing public concern, so please write to them to express your concerns.Click here to see a typical letter to write. |
