Climate

Exeter in 2100? This would be the sea level if all the polar ice melted.

Exeter Climate Action

If the Greenland ice sheet melts then sea level will rise by 7 metres. If the ice sheet over Antarctica melts then this will raise sea levels by a further 60 metres.

Antarctica is likely to be the world's only habitable continent by the end of this century if global warming remains unchecked” Sir David King Gov’t Chief Scientific Advisor

It is now clear that we have a global State of Emergency with Climate Change. The good news, however, is that we can prevent it. But it is not just the responsibility of governments, local authorities or business. The responsibility also lies with YOU.

What you can do:
Make a personal Climate Commitment

We are asking the citizens of Exeter to each make personal Climate Commitments:
Like:
  • Use the car 20% less.
  • Fit low energy light bulbs throughout your house.
  • etc..

Boycott Esso - Climate Criminal No. 1

LINK TO STOP ESSO SITE
There have been Stop Esso Actions in Exeter since May 2001. In Exeter, the campaign has been focused on the Heavitree and Alphington Esso Filling Stations.

On May 18th, there were protests at both the Alphington Road and Heavitree Filling Stations - the first time we have protested at both garages on the same day.
Our protest was one of 400 actions at Esso garages throughout the country.

Exxon Mobil

Probably the worst oil company in the world

As global temperatures rise and the world is ravaged by severe weather conditions linked to Climate Change, Exxon Mobil are leading the struggle by industry to BLOCK international legislation to cut greenhouse gases.
Exxon Mobil, through their membership of the Global Climate Coalition, was the company trying the most to disrupt the 1997 Kyoto Protocol agreement. When they were unsuccessful, they lobbied the USA government to prevent ratifcation of the Protocol.
Shell, BP and Amoco (after pressure from Friends of the Earth) have left the Global Climate Coalition, and are investing in renewable energy projects - But Exxon Mobil stubbornly refuse to.

What you can do

It is important that Esso (Exxon's UK subsidiary) realise that their activities are causing public concern, so please write to them to express your concerns.
