Exeter Airport |
Passenger numbers at Exeter Airport have grown at a dangerously unsustainable rate so far this century. 300,000 passengers in 2000, 345,000 passengers in 2002, and now 670,000 in March 2005 (A 71% rise from the previous year). In 2004, planning permission was given for a new terminal which will take passenger numbers over 2 million.
This represents the most serious local threat to Climate Change in the Exeter area.
The growth of Exeter Airport must be stopped. |
Flybe |
Flybe is the main airline operating out of Exeter Airport. In the year 2004/05 it increased its passenger numbers by 67%. And has threatened to increase its business even further. 83% of its flights are domestic within the UK. Thus it is competing directly with rail, but flying is 19 times more damaging to climate change than rail. |
Devon County Council |
Only a few weeks after Exeter's Climate Conference warned of the very real dangers of Climate Change, Devon County Council have put forward a road-widening scheme for Alphington Road. Not for buses, or bicycles, but for more cars. As if Exeter did not have enough vehicle pollution. |
Land Rover |
Land Rover's Car show-room in Matford has no vehicle that we could recommend as being kind to the climate. Every one is a Climate Killer. Matford Land Rover can be expecting a lot of heat from us. |
