Esso Blockaded - 29th SeptemberOn the 29th September 2001, we blockaded an Esso Filling Station in Alphington, Exeter with a "mass die-in" at the entrance to the forecourt. Each person that "died" represented an island nation that would disappear as a result of Climate Change; e.g. Tuvalu, Kiribati, Maldives etc. Some of us "played dead", while the rest of us held placards to protect the vulnerable. When the police arrived, we had a positive discussion, and stopped our blockade. We carried on placarding for the rest of the day. Excellent TV coverage by Carlton TV. For pictures of the action Click here We also have a postcard campaign, with about 200 postcards sent to Ansel Condray (Esso Chairman) saying that they have joined the Esso Boycott. |
