FOR nearly 15 years the village of Woodbury Salterton has had special links with the village of Dumbutu in the Gambia, West Africa. Woodbury residents' efforts over the years have raised thousands of pounds, benefiting the people of Dumbutu by helping to build a school and a multi-purpose centre complete with electricity - giving villagers a place to work and meet. The group, founded by the late John Pickering in the 1980s is now in its first year as a registered charity and With many more events planned for the future, the several thousand miles between the two villages continues to be bridged by the links and friendships formed.
