| We are trained to facilitate communication between hearing and deaf people. Strategies used may take a variety of forms depending on the needs and communication preferences of the deaf person. CSWs provide support on all educational courses in Further Education, Adult Education and Higher Education on part time and full time courses. CSWs are also available for supporting deaf people in the community eg hospital visits, work placements etc. A CSW can support a deaf person by offering some or all of the following: British Sign Language (BSL) Sign Supported English (SSE) Lipspeaking Note-taking Language modification Our team of qualified CSWs are available to be booked for sessions as required: any amount of time from a one hour session to yearly contracts to support students on courses, at interviews, in work etc. I received BSL interpretation and language modification in lessons and achieved AVCE ICT. Now I am at work I still use CSW support 2 hours per week. (A Green) CSWs helped me achieve my courses at Exeter College: GNVQ ICT, OCR Administration, AS Textiles. (N Damshenas) We charge £20 an hour for CSW support. We do not charge for travel time to or from the venue, and unlike interpreters, we only need one CSW to provide the support necessary so a CSW is normally considerably cheaper than other forms of support given.
