The school is taking the first steps towards establishing a Friends Group. A group of parents of pupils and other interested people are meeting to agree the aims of the group and how it will operate. Some suggested roles include: supporting parents of potential pupils of the school as they campaign for their child to come to the school; raising awareness of the school in the community through giving talks and recruiting volunteers; reviewing the publicity the school produces and giving advice to the staff on the way the school communicates to the outside world; organising fundraising campaigns and events and persuading social groups and companies to fundraise on behalf of the school. The Friends Group (suggestions for a name will be gratefully received!) has the potential to significantly enhance the School and if you would like to join either the Friends Group or the working party that is agreeing its role, please contact Gillian Coley on 01392 216083 or email: gcoley@rsd-exeter.org.uk.

Because 90% of deaf children have hearing parents, most of the issues around deafness will be new to them: knowledge is not handed on from generation to generation. Therefore the School is always looking for ways of making people more aware of its activities so that should people need us, they know we exist and know how to contact us. This can be done in many ways: fundraising is always a good one and has the added benefit of cash for the School at the end of it! However, other ways are just as important. Distributing information, giving talks and making the School itself aware of possible opportunities are all very valuable to us.

The money we receive from Local Education Authorities and from private pupils only pays for the immediate costs of their education. Any new buildings or refurbishment have to be paid for through other means. One of the most important sources of funds for this kind of work is through the legacy income we receive. If you would like advice on how you can support our endowment fund in this way, or wish to know what our long term plans for the school are, then please click here.

Donations are always welcome and, as a charity, we can add over 28% to its value if you are able to sign a gift aid form as well. Donations normally are spent on trips and outdoor activities for the children, which are very important parts of their social development. If, however, you wish us to spend the donation in other ways then please indicate this when you send the donation in.

Please download this form, complete and return it with your donation so we can reclaim the tax you paid on the income you have now given to us. It will add 28% to the value of your donation so it is definitely worth doing!
