Creators; Family of
the Moor
This work was conceived by me to mark and celebrate the millennium by the recognition that Dartmoor, beautiful that it is, isn't a natural wilderness. This is a collaboration with Aune Head Arts in the form of a community environmental arts project. Sculptor, Carol Whibley, was commissioned to guide and help our group in workshops held at Michelcombe Farm, Holne. The intention was to create this "family" from moss, wool, copper wire and willow. They represent man, woman and their domestic beasts. They all contributed, by their needs and industry into shaping Dartmoor. When the "family" were complete we transported them around the moor for me to photograph. Some of the photographs were constructed by me in the computer. The project contributed to much hilarity and some rather bemused, but interested looks from onlookers and passers-by. |
