Joe Reevy's thoughts:
I have pioneered the use of mentoring techniques to assist in practice growth and profitability. We now do little traditional consultancy work. I believe that mentoring is a more effective approach as well as being far more cost-effective. Consulting is an appropriate technique for the bigger firm, but for the up to 25-partner firm, I am convinced of the relative value of mentoring in most circumstances. I have helped a number of firms turn themselves into far more profitable practices this way. I get a real kick out of helping nice people to succeed. Let's talk. Note: this is not our main business, but that does not mean I take this work any less seriously, it just means that I have to limit myself to a maximum of three 'strong' mentoring arrangements at any time. Of course I welcome calls at any time from the management of firms I have helped in the past: mentoring is for life if you want it to be. When I am unable to take on additional obligations, or lack the specific expertise needed, I am happy to refer to some of the excellent practice consultants (such as Nick Jarrett-Kerr - Management Consultant) I know.
