Refurnish Devon (formally Devon Furniture Forum)
Was set up in 1998 to provide a support, advocacy and networking service
to the community sector furniture, electrical appliance re-use
organisations in Devon and to develop new reuse projects and facilities to
address the new WEEE (Waste Electrical & Electrical Equipment)
legislation.
Refurnish Devon is a Registered Charity working in Devon and the South
West.
Our three principle aims are to:
Protect the environment through the collection, reuse and recycling of
household and commercial waste
Alleviate poverty by the supply of safe, clean and affordable goods to
people on low incomes
Provide training, employment and volunteering opportunities for a variety
of people and groups including those who have been long-term
unemployed and/or have support needs.
The best way to deal with our unwanted
goods is to REDUCE, RE-USE and RECYCLE
it.
We can REDUCE the amount of waste we
create by buying food with less packaging,
buying fewer disposable items (e.g. use re-
usable nappies), repairing items where
possible, using electronic communications to
cut back on junk mail and composting at
home.
We can RECYCLE waste such as glass,
paper, metal, textiles and plastics so that it
can be reprocessed and made into new
things.
Devon recycled 51.6% of its household waste
in 2008/09, and with your help we aim to
increase Devon’s recycling and composting
rate to 53% by 2010, 60% by 2015 and 65% by
2025.
All of ReFURNISH Devon’s Shops work in
partnership with local authories to promote
recycling.
