JOY FRENCH née ADAMS

I keep family details on Brother's Keeper. Here are some of the main lines of the ancestors of my wife Joy (1921-2007):

ADAMS: The direct line is from SHERFORD in South Devon, but there are other ADAMS lines elsewhere in the South Hams, and we are interested in trying to connect them. JARVIS, WEEKES and LAVERS also appear. BRADDICK is from South-East Devon. TREDWELL and others are from Worcs. Mi(t)chell, Hodder, Tonkin are from Cornwall.

Books on Sherford, mentioning ADAMS, include:
J R Goodman, "One Thousand Years of Sherford" 1998, ISBN 0 9533903 06
Philippa Trahair, "Stancombe, a Devon Manor" 1995, ISBN 0 9525 7560 4

Her mother was a HARVEY from Germoe, Cornwall. Other names in Cornwall: RICHARDS, KING, TRETHEWEY, and others. Through KING and TRETHEWEY we can trace back to DOCTON, ARUNDELL, and eventually to Royalty.

For DOCTON, read NS & ID Pugh, "A Millennium for a Mill" 1998, ISBN 0 9532902 0 4

A big database, of over 32,000 names of people related to us, by blood or by marriage, is kept at Rootsweb's WorldConnect site. You can move to it by clicking here.

NEWS WANTED: John ADAMS (1808 - 1878) of Pindar Lodge, Dodbrooke, Kingsbridge, Devon was a widower in 1851. We had lost him in 1851 but he was on a farm near Brixham, with his birthplace given as Kingsbridge instead of Sherford! Who was his first wife?
