What started out as a cheap daily driver.
Has become..
I bought this car in August 2001. It is a rare right hand drive American, apparently sold new in England.
. It had a few problems when I bought it, no brakes (rear wheel cylinder was faulty)
, rear window didn`t wind up, the accelerator cable had snapped and the seats were ripped.
But it was cheap!!
I later found out that the parts of the rear brakes were missing and the sill trims
has been taken off. The wiper motor was also replaced with a triumph one, which didn`t work well.
The car has been more work than I wanted, and it has been on a friend`s drive for six months!! (Thanks Phil!).
It has a Triumph straight 6 2litre engine and auto box. The car was originally a manual with column change. I havn`t driven this car yet (and I said that I wouldn`t buy a car without driving it!!)
I wonder what it will be like to drive with this engine fitted.
The engine bay still needs work, but I have done some work already. The wiring was a bit of a nightmare, there was a battery lead that had been lenthened
by bolting 2 cables together, and the middle of this cable was rubbing on the rocker cover. A fuel line was also rubbing on the exhaust!!
I have recovered the seats, after getting a quote for £450, I did them myself. It ended up costing about £50 as I did the covers in a heavy cotton.
I don`t know how long the covers will last, but they look a whole lot better than before.
